As the Marketing Coordinator with Vessel Architecture, I have been with the firm since last July, and am the first dedicated marketing staff member on the team. My responsibilities include a little of everything - social media coordination; website updates; event planning; and managing our firm's CRM. I joined SMPS last September and quickly joined the Communications Committee. I mostly help with creating graphics for our website and social media platforms. This year, I also became involved in the Chapter's Mentoring Program as a Mentee.
1) What led you to become involved in the chapter's Mentoring Program? What do you think the benefits are for all involved parties from a program such as this?
When I first heard about the program, I knew I should apply. I believed it would be a great opportunity for me to have a one-on-one connection with an experienced marketing professional in this industry. There are tons of benefits for both parties involved including sharing best practices, having a sounding board, and the opportunity to develop a lasting relationship beyond the program.
2) With a couple more months left of the program, what are your thoughts about the program? Your mentor? Do you feel once the program has ended that your relationship with your mentor will simply end?
The program has been great for both me and my mentor! I can definitely see us continuing to meet in the future whenever we can while after this year's program ends. She has been a great person to have in my corner and I am very grateful for everything she’s helped me with so far.
3) In a previous spotlight about the Mentoring program, we heard the perspective of a mentor. As a mentee, what do you believe will be your ultimate takeaways from the program and from the one-on-ones with your mentor?
There are many takeaways from this program, but the ultimate one for me has been the chance to develop a meaningful and lasting relationship in a one-on-one setting. It has truly allowed for mutual collaboration and an opportunity to share advice.
4) Do you think it is important for everyone to have a mentor throughout one's career or even just in their life? If yes, please explain.
Yes! Having a mentor can not only have an impact on your professional life but on your personal life too. Mentorship relationships can often turn into lifelong friendships. It’s important to have someone you can look up to and ask for advice from. I also don’t think you have to limit yourself to just one mentor. Why not have many!
5) What are your three favorite things to do in St. Louis on a weekend when you have nothing else planned?
Not necessarily St. Louis specific, but my ideal weekend consists of hanging out with my friends and family, doing something outside like hiking, playing golf or pickleball. I am also always down to try out new food spots. If I must pick something to do in St. Louis I’d go to Forest Park and stroll around the Zoo and Art Museum, and if it’s nice out go to the Boat House too!
6) At the beginning of this year, what were you most excited about happening? Has it happened? If so, what now?
At the beginning of this year (well really last year too) I was waiting for my boyfriend to pop the question. It finally happened over Easter weekend and now we are in full-on wedding-planning mode!
