Paige is the Marketing Coordinator for Heneghan Associates, where she has been for the last 9 months. Paige has been a member of SMPS for 8 months and is currently involved in the Mentee/Mentor Program.

What led you to participate in the chapter's Mentoring Program? What do you think the benefits are for all involved parties from a program such as this?

This is my first marketing role in the AEC field, and I am the first person ever to hold a marketing position in my company. I wanted to not only connect with other like-minded people but also learn more about the field and have one-on-one time with someone to help guide me through my first year.

There are so many benefits to this program! Networking but being around like-minded people in similar roles who can help with things you don’t even realize.

Now that the program is ending, what are your thoughts about the program? Your mentor? Do you plan on staying in contact with your mentor even after the program ends?

This is a great program that I would recommend to anyone! Whether you are like me and brand new or a long-time veteran in the field – I think this can help bring a fresh perspective to your day-to-day, make you step outside your comfort zone, and network with people like you!

My mentor, Courtney, was the best! I plan to stay in contact with her after my program ends. I’ve felt so lucky to be placed with someone so similar to me and my role and to have access to someone with so many years of experience! She was the best listener and always provided the best advice. She has majorly shaped my first year more than she will ever know.

We have previously heard about a mentor's perspective in other spotlights. As a mentee, what do you believe are your ultimate takeaways from the program and the one-on-ones with your mentor?

My ultimate takeaways from this program is industry knowledge, career growth, skill development, and even a confidence boost!

Do you think it is important for anyone to have a mentor throughout one's career or even just in their life? If yes, please explain.

I do think at any stage in your career/life a mentor could be beneficial! The Marketing world is always ever evolving as well as the AEC field. I think it’s so important to never stop learning and growing. Especially if you are feeling stagnant and want change. Getting a fresh perspective or just having someone listen and help guide you through some day-to-day things is so helpful. Life and work are a hard balance and if you have access to things to help lighten your load – take advantage!

What is the last book read? Would you recommend it to other readers?

I just finished “The Perfectionist Guide to Losing Control: A Path to Peace and Power.” If you are looking for a more self-help book – I would recommend to anyone who may be struggling with being a perfectionist or have an issue with letting go. It was written by a psychotherapist and brings some new ideas and perspectives. I’d recommend it to anyone working through that themselves or wanting to better themselves!

Do you have any hobbies? If so, what are they and how did they become a hobby?

Some things I enjoy are cooking, photography, tending to my house plants, and gardening. (This year, I grew a bunch of flowers such as Zinna’s!). I also like traveling, trying new restaurants, and going to concerts, and I even run a couple of small business social media accounts outside of HA!

Most of my hobbies became my hobbies from my Grandma. She had a garden, and loved to cook/try new foods! All my other hobbies came about from my desire to be/stay creative and explore new things/places!
