SMPS Member Spotlight – Kelli Manegre, SM Wilson
As Marketing Coordinator at S. M. Wilson, I assist with proposal preparation, marketing materials, marketing communications, and social media as well as curating content and maintaining the website. I've previously volunteered at miscellaneous events and served on the Membership Committee for two years before a began serving in my current role as Chapter Secretary.
When did you join the SMPS St. Louis Chapter? What led you to want to join the organization? I joined SMPS in 2015 after starting a job at an engineering firm. With a marketing background, but little knowledge of the A/E/C industry, a co-worker (shout out to Stacey Chaney, CPSM - now a Secretary for the SMPS Wisconsin Chapter) brought me to a couple of SMPS events and encouraged me to join.
What is the most important thing you believe you have gained from joining SMPS? The most important thing I've gained from joining SMPS is an insight into the unique world of A/E/C marketing. It's a specialized industry, unlike your "typical" marketing job. SMPS has provided me the programs, tools, connections, and knowledge to grow professionally.
What excites you about your work and the contributions you make to SM Wilson every day? The ability to be creative and working with a supportive team makes work fun!
Throughout your career, what is a good lesson you had to learn the hard way that has continued to help you now? It's cliche, but hard work pays off. You may have to work through difficult or challenging situations, but in the end, they help you grow professionally.
What might someone be surprised to know about you? I come from a large extended family with more than 35 cousins.
If you had all the time in the world and could learn to do anything, what would it be? That's tough! I'd love to learn how to play piano, surf, and improve my Spanish.
